Mortal Instruments: City of Bones – Movie Quotes

Click here for a discussion regarding the theology of the spiritual realm as presented in Mortal Instruments: City of Bones as compared to the Bible.

Jocelyn:  She’s not ready.  Not yet.
Luke:  Yes, she is.  You’re not.

Clary:  You’re a killer.  A cold-blooded killer.
Jace:  As opposed to a peace-loving killer?

Clary:  He’s not my boyfriend.
Jocelyn:  Does he know that?

Jace:  You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.
Clary:  Try me.
Jace:  It’s a demon.
Clary:  You’re right.  I don’t believe you.

Jace:  Demons can take possession of any living thing.

Simon:  Your mom’s gone and you’re hanging out with some died blonde goth wannabe weirdo?
Jace:  For the record, my hair’s naturally blonde.

Simon:  They look like real cops to me.  So where did they get the car??? Huh?!

Jace:  Either you’re born a shadow-hunter, or you have to drink from the royal cup.

Jace:  Crusaders summoned an angel, he bled into a cup and those who drank from it became…shadow-hunters.

Bane:  I don’t remember inviting anyone of the Nephilim.

Alec:  Jace thinks he needs to save the world and you don’t need to encourage him to do it.
Clary:  But that’s what you guys do!

To Clary about her mom:  Everything she did, she did for you.

Bane:  Just remember, it was the shadow-hunters your mother was running from.

Jace:  All religions are sisters in our battle.

Clary:  What do you believe in?
Jace:   I believe in myself.  …In all my time, I’ve never seen an angel.

Simon:  I know I’ve always needed you more than you’ve needed me.
Clary:  I’ve only ever had my mom, Luke and you.  Don’t ever imagine that you weren’t important to me.

Clary:  Whoa…what did that piano ever do to you?  You play as if you lost your only love.
Jace:  My only love remains myself.
Clary:  At least you don’t have to deal with rejection.
Jace:  Well, sometimes I reject myself just to keep it interesting.

Clary:  I might not know much about mundane history, but I do know that when ever someone starts talking about preserving race, it doesn’t end well.

Valentine:  What can I say?  The broken make the best followers.  To love is to destroy.

Valentine, as he turns Jace’s ring from a “W” to an “M”:  You see?  It’s all a matter of perception.

Clary:  Go ahead.  You can hang your head out the window if you need to.
Werewolf:  I’m a werewolf, not a golden retriever.

Simon:  The werewolves are here to save us.  Never thought I’d say that.

Valentine:  She doesn’t want to believe you because she’s in love with you.

Clary:  If you’d been a real dad, you’d know me well enough to know where my deepest thoughts lie.  I don’t know how to look at the world anymore.

Clary:  I don’t see streets and cars anymore.  I see demons and angels.
